The Islamic Center hosted its first “Singles Social Club” event recently for Muslim men and women ages 30 – 50 years old looking to get married. The gathering was small – 11 women and 10 men. It was hosted by a husband and wife team at their private residence in West Los Angeles.
The ice breaker games and small group venue were perfect.
After praying maghrib together, the group sat down to share a dinner, which offered an opportunity for conversations to begin naturally from the very beginning. Many guests enjoyed the small-scale event, which one attendee said was much different from other singles event. “Other singles events are huge, with speeches and no opportunity to meet everyone there.”
Once dinner was over, the festivities shifted to the living room where the group sat in a circle for ice breaker games – alternating man, woman, man, woman, etc… In the first game, each pair had 3 minutes to get to know each other before they switched.
“The ice breaker games and small group venue were perfect,” said an attendees. After taking a break for coffee and dessert, they conversed and played another game before ending the event. The night ended with more positive feedback from guests, such as, “I loved the hosts and the warm, welcoming environment.

There were three connections made at the first mixer, and insha’Allah this is just the beginning. In July, the Center plans to host three more singles events for different age groups.
