ICSC Statement on London Ontario, Canada Terrorist Attack
The Islamic Center of Southern California expresses its grief and dismay at the murder of four members of the Afzaal family in London, Ontario, Canada in what authorities are calling a terrorist attack on the family. Evidence shows the family was deliberately targeted because of their Islamic faith.
We commend Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for his unabashed use of the terms “terrorist” and “Islamophobic” to describe the attack.
According to local police, there is ample evidence that Nathaniel Veltman’s murder of the family was premeditated and motivated by hate, targeting the family because they were Muslims. We commend the London Ontario police for quickly moving to apprehend this terrorist.
We also thank Prime Minister Trudeau for reaching out to the Muslim community in London and affirming Canada’s stand against hateful violence.
May God Almighty accept Salmaan Afzaal, his wife Madiha, their daughter Yumna, and the grandmother in His Mercy and grant them Janat Al-Firdous.
We send our sincerest condolences to the Afzaal family. We also pray young Fayez has a full and speedy recovery. We pray for him to have the support and care needed to deal with such trauma at such a young age.
People have the right to live peacefully, safely, securely and without fear. Hate and racism are fueling violence across the world. Much work remains to be done to counter hate.
