Eid al Fitr came at the perfect time this year, Summertime! On July 8, the Islamic Center’s Muslim Youth Group (MYG) held its first Beach Bonfire Eid Celebration, at Dockweiler Beach – complete with kosher s’mores and hot dogs, fireworks, and a DJ! And not to mention, the beautiful Pacific Ocean for a backdrop.

There were plenty of activities to entertain youth as they gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadan at the beach. Surrounded by food, fun, and fire – a few teens hopped in the ocean for a quick swim or boogie boarding, like MYG President, Arva Syed, while others took a more relaxing route as they sat to enjoy the ocean view. Reflecting on the month of Ramadan, the youth talked about their challenges, accomplishments, and favorite memories from the month while roasting marshmallows over the fire.  Fireworks and music sounded in the background and no one wanted to leave when the event ended at 10 p.m. It was the perfect way to conclude a month of fasting – with friends around a fire. As the youth left for the night they all agreed, “we should do this more often!”
