Our annual summer picnic at Griffith Park brought together nearly a hundred community members for a fun day of sunshine with family and friends!
Guests enjoyed delicious burgers and hot dogs (all halal!) prepared by our Social Services committee while catching up with familiar faces – it was a relaxing afternoon of both community and fun. Meanwhile, kids ran freely around the park playing outdoor games like musical chairs, frisbee, and soccer. The atmosphere was buzzing with laughter and excitement all day long. “It was a great opportunity to meet with friends and have our kids be around other Muslim children,” said Nafissa Khelaf, member of ICSC and Picnic attendee, “it was a really nice get together. My kids were looking forward to it all week.”
As the afternoon went on, the heat continued to rise leading New Horizon’s soda and popsicle fundraiser to provide us all with much-needed cool refreshment and energized us on the warm summer day. But the temperature didn’t stop us – we rolled out the prayer rugs and made sure to pray Dhuhr together in the park. It was a beautiful moment that reflected the common thread and daily purpose that we all share. Thank you to everyone who came out! We hope you will join us for all the fun next again year, insha’Allah.
